Family & Friends Remember Whitney Houston

Published on February 14th, 2012

The shock of the passing of one of music’s irreplaceable blessings that is Whitney Houston is still fresh for some. Not everyone has been able to open up about the death of Whitney and those who did, got really emotional as anyone would. She was truly a gift to the music and anyone she encountered seem to have the same memory of her. She’s said to have been very warm, welcoming, kind hearted, and just an all around lovable spirit. Friend like Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan, Monica and Brandy recently spoke about their memories of her and how they’ve felt since her passing. Her godmother Aretha Franklin gave a beautiful tribute along with LeAnn Rimes at a private event. Wendy Williams even got teary eyed talking about Whitney. Check out the touching stories, anger and tributes below:

On the set of their video for It All Belongs To Me, Brandy and Monica talked with E! News who was on set at the shoot. They discussed the Grammy winners and about their final moments with Whitney.

Monica On A Fun Memory She Has Of Whitney:
She was a jokester and I don’t think people really understood the fact that she was hilarious. The other day she came in, and heard our song, and she walks up to me and she goes, ‘You killin’ that run at the end.’ You know she kept sayin’ it, and she was like, ‘And you know I know you stole that from me, right? You killin’ that run you stole from me.” I’m like “I didn’t steal it, I borrowed it in a respectful manner” and she just thought that was funny because every night in my shows I do a segment for her and always have. That was something she enjoyed ; watching the YouTube’s and watching me kind of emulate her.

It hasn’t always been easy for me but I think that I pushed through because so many people have loved, uplifted and supported me and she was at the top of that list.

Monica on Whitney pulling her on stage to sing with her
That’s something that she often did. She always liked for me to come sing because she told me, ‘I’ve never met anybody that I saw myself in,’ And the fact that I was signed and discovered singing ‘The Greatest Love of All,’ you know…it’s just been a rough week overall. But I recognize that she and I both, outside of music, had a lot in common. And our love for God and our belief in Christ was one of those things and it’s kept me strong and kept me fighting for what it is she loved, and that is family first, music and the rest is second.

Monica On The Advice She’s Received From Whitney:
Allow my love to lead me. That was something that she would always say. Be okay with who I was.

There are a lot of heart broken people but we should just keep her daughter in our prayers and be thankful that God allowed us the time we did have with her.

Brandy when asked what was on the note that Whitney gave to her during an E! interview last week
I’m going to just not say what it was and just keep it to myself for my own personal reasons. I really don’t want to talk about Whitney right now.

Brandy On if she’s been Able To Reach Out To Bobbi Kristina
Yes, I have. I was with Bobbi Kristina the other night. It’s just so unfortunate. Whitney meant everything to me—everything. She’s the reason that I sing. It’s crazy, so crazy. I just want to make her proud. Every step I make I’m just going to do my best to make her proud.

Chaka Khan stopped by Piers Morgan’s CNN show and opened up about why she disagreed with Clive Davis saying there’s no way Whitney would have attended a party if one of her friends had just died. She would not have wanted the music to keep playing.

She said that Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party was “insanity” with one half of the room partying and the other half in tears. She added that she can’t imagine Whitney would have said that “the show must go on.”

Chaka revealed Whitney was the kind of woman who who has said, “I won’t be there,” if one of her friends died. She interestingly added that she blames whomever flew Whitney out to LA for a full week before the Grammys for what happened.
Chaka said entertainers are vulnerable and there are too many temptations in LA for someone like Whitney to be there for a FULL week with pretty much nothing to do except party.

On an interview airing Monday, February 20, 2012, Janet Jackson talked to Anderson Cooper about Whitney and the special bond that they shared.

She revealed that if they were at award shows, they would always make it a point to stop by one another’s dressing room to show love and offer support. She had a few words for Bobbi Kris too.

Last but not least Wendy Williams talked about the death of Whitney Houston on her show. During what she claims will be the first and only time she addresses Houston’s passing, Williams broke down describing what the late singer meant to her as a former addict.

“I felt very close to Whitney even though this is a woman I’ve never met. I’ve never even been in the same room with her except for one time in my life,” she started. “Some of the things Whitney and I have in common that bonded us: the love of our mother and our father… and both plagued with the demon of substance abuse.”

“It’s been almost 15 years since I last smoked last from a crack pipe. It’s been almost 15 years since I waited on Jerome Avenue in the Bronx for my drugs,” she said. “I knew I’d meet her one day, but I always pictured that time to be in our late 50s, 60s with her being the No. 1 spokesperson for ‘Say No.’ I just for some reason thought that’s what she’d do. It’s what I want to do. I just thought we’d meet, and we’d hug and we’d be sober and older.”
